Ron Weber, Co-Head Boys Stats, Assistant of Stats, Head Wayzata Boys Spotter.

Ron Weber is Mike Weber’s Dad. He assists Mike with statistics by being his spotter. As the game of basketball moves very quickly, it is difficult to watch all the action and still get it entered into the Cyber Sports program on a computer. Ron started working with Mike in 2003 with the WHS 9th grade boys basketball team coached by Mike Schumacher. In 2004 when Mike began using the Cyber Sports program Ron learned the program along with Mike and does spotting for JV and Varsity games now.

Ron played several sports at Benilde St. Margaret’s High School including basketball, soccer and golf. He went on to play college soccer at the University of Minnesota where he graduated in 1980. Ron is an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoys working the WHS basketball games. He has the best seat in the house! Ron’s real sports passion is golf. He attended the University of Minnesota on a full scholarship called the Evans Scholarship, which is awarded to young men and women that have caddied at private country clubs, have financial need and are excellent students with leadership qualities.

As for hobbies Ron enjoys traveling, especially to warm climates during cold Minnesota winters to play golf and relax. He does a bit of wine collecting and gardening as well. Probably his favorite hobby is competing in long driving events. Ron has won several local and multi state district long driving events and has been to the ReMax world long drive championship in Mesquite Nevada. He finished 11th in the world in the 2003 event in the senior division, which is for ages 45-54. (Needed to be top 8 to get on the ESPN telecast) His longest drive in competition is 384 yards. He has also worked at golf events like the Randy Shaver Golf Classic, to raise money for charities by exhibiting his long driving ability. He jokes that he is a well trained athlete………Can’t you tell! Luckily, you don’t have to be in great shape to hit a golf ball a long way. His goal is to get back to the world finals and hopefully make the TV finals.

Ron’s family includes his wife of 25 years Carolyn, daughters Colleen and Rachel and of course, his stats partner, Mike.

His favorite memories are seeing Mike be part of the teams he has done stats for and helping him contribute. This season has been the highlight thus far as the JV and Varsity are both playing very well. It is just fun to be a part of it and to see such a great group of guys, coaches and parents.
