Mike Weber, Co-Head Boys Stats, Assistant of Stats, Head
Statistician Wayzata Boys Basketball.
Mike Weber started doing stats for the Wayzata H.S. 9th grade boys Basketball team in 2003 for Mike Schumacher. Mike Schumacher gave Mike a chance to contribute to the team and without his support he would not be involved with Wayzata athletics today. In 2004 Mike did the stats for the 10th grade boys team using Cyber Sports software for Wayzata Results. Josh Gerber did an excellent job of training Mike to use the program to generate accurate and complete stats for each game. This season Mike is doing the JV and Varsity games.
Mike is an avid sports fan of high school, college and pro sports. Mike is a junior at Wayzata High School and he thoroughly enjoys being involved with sports and being friends with the players, coaches and fans.
Mike has Asperger’s Syndrome, which is a high functioning form of autism. Being a part of the teams means a lot to Mike. The coaches and players have been very good to Mike and he really looks up to them. He enjoys contributing to the teams and traveling with the players.
If you ever need to know your stats ask Mike. He will show you the numbers, but he will more than likely be able to tell you how the plays of the game unfolded as he has an almost photographic memory and is a whiz with math.
Away from the court Mike enjoys video games, music, sports and spending time with his family, his sister, Colleen who graduated from WHS and is a junior at the University of St. Thomas, his sister Rachel who is a freshman at WHS and his Mom and Dad Carolyn and Ron. Mike sings in the Varsity men’s choir at Wayzata H.S. and he works in the OTJ job training program as well.
There are many great experiences Mike has had at Wayzata H.S. The most exciting was the football and soccer teams winning the state championships in the fall of 2005. He hopes the Varsity basketball team can go all the way this year, which would be awesome.
This entire season has been outstanding, as the team is 17-0. The big highlight thus far was the tip in by Chris Taylor with 4 seconds left to beat Minnetonka by 1!
The fondest memories are of the friends he has made with players, coaches and fans. Everyone involved with Wayzata sports and education including Dr. Paul, Jamie Sherwood, Mike Schumacher, Phil Ward, the teaching staff, and especially the students and student athletes that have befriended Mike will always be his most cherished memories of WHS.
Mike plans to graduate from WHS in 2008 and seek continuing education and job placement. Mike’s dream job would be a sports play by play announcer. As for stats, who knows… he might be doing stats after graduation…he is keeping his options open!
